Hong Kong's Freshest Hotel: Ozo Wesley

Travel / Oct 26, 2015 /

Advertised as urban accommodation for on the go global nomads, this hotel definitely doesn’t fail to deliver. Situated smack bang in the middle of Wan Chai, one of Hong Kong’s hottest neighbourhoods, you couldn’t ask for a cooler place to stay.

On the opposite end of the scale from some of the more traditional luxury hotels found on Hong Kong Island, the Ozo Wesley offers clean, simple, effortlessly chic accommodation which is really reasonably priced.

As you walk through the front door into the reception area of the hotel, you can tell that you’ve stumbled across something really cool. Lots of young, hip travelling types can be found surfing the web (thanks to the complimentary wifi) working out where to head next. The interior is minimalistic and clean and the check in process if faultlessly simple. Whilst the reception area offers interactive maps of the different neighbourhoods, the team go out of their way to provide you with all of their local knowledge, ensuring you’ll make the most of your trip.

The hotel prides itself in creating the best possible ‘dream experience’ and I can honestly say that I’ve never had a better night’s sleep. Each room comes fitted with black out blinds and beds that seriously compete with clouds. Genuinely. I wanted to take them home with us.

The rooms are incredibly well considered. Whilst fairly small in size (it is in Hong Kong Island after all), each inch of space has been accounted for perfectly. Doors slide sideways rather than outwards and windowsills have been converted into comfie ‘love seat’ areas. One of the things that I loved most about the hotel was that they provide you with a decent sized fridge, which is empty. Yes, empty. No over-priced mini bar in sight, which is perfect when there’s an M&S Food next door. If that isn’t enough, there is of course a 24 hour café in the reception area.

The hotel boasts a well equipped gym with cardio machines and weights but with such a perfect location, we opted to take to the streets instead. Directly outside of the hotel are stops for the tram (or the Ding Ding if you want to be a local) and buses. A 5 minute walk in either direction will take you to the Admirality and Wanchai MTR’s. Only on the last day we discover that by entering 3 Pacific Place (just across the road) you can walk underground to the Admirality MTR which is perfect if air conditioning is your friend.

Complimentary breakfast is offered to all guests and is more than sufficient if you’re looking for a quick continental breakfasts. Their cooked breakfasts are buffet style and so weren’t my favourites, therefore we took a 3 minute walk to Oolaa Petite at 12-14 Wing Fung Street where the breakfasts were to die for. I have to say though, that for the cost of the accommodation, you really can’t complain.

I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this hotel to anybody. If you’re planning to visit Hong Kong and want somewhere reasonably priced, perfectly positioned to explore some of Hong Kong’s coolest neighbourhoods and with potentially the comfiest beds in town, you couldn’t beat booking the Ozo Wesley. The hotel’s fresh approach to taking care of its guests rather than sticking to outdated rules, makes it perfect for the modern traveller.
